6 Summer Skincare Tips to Keep You Glowing

It’s summer, finally! Bikinis are out, holidays are booked, and the cocktails are flowing… but what about your skincare routine? As the weather gets warmer, our skin needs a little bit of extra TLC.

So, here are our six top tips to keep your skin protected, hydrated and glowing throughout the scorching (fingers crossed) summer months.

We’ve even asked our wonderful Therapy Manager, Charlotte, to let us in on some of her summer skincare secrets and favourite Tribe517 products to beat the heat – all available to purchase in our retail shop!

SPF

SPF should be the last step in your skincare routine this summer, but it should be your first priority! We know how gorgeous and mood boosting the summer sun can be, but it’s harsh and damaging on our skin.

SPF can feel heavy and irritating at times, so look for a light SPF for the face – there are some great SPF mists out there. Once you’ve found the SPF that’s right for you, make sure to pack it in your travel bag and reapply every 2 hours to keep your skin protected and moisturised.

Double Cleanse

Makeup and sweat aren’t the best combo, which is why properly cleansing is so important to keep your skin feeling clean and fresh, especially during the hotter months. But what is double cleansing?

Double cleansing is a cleansing method that involves two kinds of cleanser: oil based and water based. The oil cleanser will remove SPF, makeup and dirt whilst the water-based cleanser properly cleans the skin.

Double cleansing isn’t a necessity and only needs to be done at night but, if you wear SPF and / or makeup, it’s one of the best methods to prevent clogged pores and get your skin clean and prepped for your next skincare steps!

Don’t Hate, Exfoliate!

“Build-up of SPF, sweat and oil can cause congestion and breakouts” says our Therapy Manager, Charlotte.

She recommends Tribe517’s Chrism Balm because it “uses finely ground almond shells to deep clean pores, whilst its base of cocoa butter leaves your skin feeling nourished and supple”.

Exfoliating once or twice a week helps remove excess dirt and can improve skin’s texture, making it appear brighter – all contributing to that summer glow!

However, it’s best not to reach for the scrub if you’re sunburnt. Let your skin repair and heal before adding this step back into your routine.

Don’t Skip Moisturiser, Go Lighter

It’s tempting to ditch the moisturiser as it starts to get warmer, but our skin still needs lots of hydration throughout the summer months.

Hot weather increases water loss and air-conditioning can make our skin feel dry and irritated.

Instead of getting rid, switch to a lighter, gel-based moisturiser and ensure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day.

Keep it Cool

Trust us, putting your skincare in the fridge is a game changer. Pop your moisturiser, eye cream and serums in the fridge for a few hours or store them in there all summer long!

“Exposure to sun and heat can leave your skin feeling tight and itchy,” says Charlotte. “Treat yourself to Tribe517’s Pink Bare – a mask packed with Calamine Powder to soothe and repair your skin after a day of enjoying perhaps too much sun!”

Adding these simple, soothing little skincare tricks to your summer routine can help reduce puffiness and calm sensitive, sunburnt skin.

Beat the Chafe

For many, summer heat means shorts or sun dresses and chafing thighs.

Charlotte recommends applying Tribe517 Dust, with luxury powder puff, to the inner thighs to reduce friction and soak up excess moisture.

“Applying this naturally sweet-scented dust over deodorant can also help your deodorant last longer and keep you smelling fresh” she says.

So, whether you’re spending summer in the UK or jet-setting abroad, keep these tips in mind when the temperature starts to rise, and you’ll be all set for a summer of glowing, healthy skin!
