What to expect when planning your wedding
Congratulations, you’re getting married!
Planning a wedding yourself can feel like an overwhelming task, and knowing quite where to start can often be the hardest part.
To help you with the key steps in your wedding planning journey, we’ve put together a planning timeline to provide some guidance…
To Start
- First things first, you will need to make a decision about when and where you would like to get married….
The UK or overseas? A beach wedding or a country house? Summer nuptials or a winter dream? The choices are endless!
The year and season will influence a lot of your choices from food served at your wedding breakfast to the colour scheme, so it’s important to give it some thought.
- Discuss your venue must-haves, research venues and create a shortlist.
- Visiting your shortlist of venues is key, so book your appointment, take a closer look and get a feel for the venue and the team who will be delivering your special day.
- Once you’ve chosen your favourite venue, all that’s left to do it book the date! A big milestone to tick off, and from here, the details can start to take shape.
- At this early stage we would recommend ALWAYS organising wedding insurance, just in case!

- Now is the time to book your church or registrar.

- Whether you’re opting for a mini-moon, a classic honeymoon, a family-moon or a mega-moon, it’s time to research and book your first trip as newlyweds!
- As your wedding date gets closer, it’s time to send out your official invitations. Sending them out this far in advance will allow your guests ample time to RSVP and for you to confirm numbers with your venue
- Clear a space in your calendar – it’s time to choose your wedding rings!
- 9-12 months out, is also the time to go wedding dress and suit shopping, as well as choose wedding party attire, including bridesmaids dresses and groomsman suits. Don’t forget the wedding shoes and accessories!

3 months before
- With the wedding countdown well and truly on, you will now be finalising all suppliers and details of your day!
