On Saturday 21st September, we experienced the worst weather event in 24 years of business. At 5.30pm, we were hit with flash flood and mudslides throughout the Oak House restaurant. We are located in a valley and the water & mud came from the surrounding fields. The flooding was very sudden and within minutes, we were submerged.
The restaurant was evacuated and the team began clearing water and mud from the buildings. Unfortunately, later that evening at 9:30pm, the heavy rain returned, and because the mud slide had blocked the drainage across the property, the water rushed down like a fast-moving river and got into restaurant - a second flash flood hit, causing additional damage.
Since the floods, we have been overwhelmed with offers of support, help and assistance from family, friends, locals, customers and nearby businesses. Your kindness in this situation means the world to us, and for this, we are truly grateful.
Repairs are progressing quickly but due to the extent of the damage, the restaurant remains temporarily closed and our planned Sunset Vibes event this Friday (27th Sept) has been postponed. Our reservations team have been contacting everyone with a booking affected by this. If you have called and left a message, we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Rest assured, we WILL be back open as soon as possible 💚
